After contemplating for a day and a half, I feel compelled to share my experience from the 4+ months I spent at this clinic. Bear with me, as it is a little lengthy, but I do feel this is important.
Initially, I liked Dr. Mukalel for his practical approach to pain management as both a pain specialist and a mental health clinic director. His staff was wonderful—kind and genuinely caring—despite a large mix-up during one of my procedures in which the staff sent me home early before the second injection was completed and I had to return. They were apologetic, and I did appreciate that.
Yesterday, I had a much different experience than my first few months here. It was a followup visit after the last batch of procedures. Dr. Mukalel began condescendingly questioning my recent diagnosis of autoimmune encephalitis, and interrogating me about the treatment method my neurologist was planning to use. I didn’t appreciate the way he stated that “there wasn’t a shred of evidence to support that treatment and I was making a mistake and needed to do ketamine infusions at his clinic instead because my problem wasn’t encephalitis; encephalitis didn’t cause OCD or tourette’s” (in which he was incorrect; this kind does) and I was “blindly believing lies.”
While this was the second time he had questioned an outside doctor’s method of treatment, he stated his opinion in a much calmer manner previously. I’m not sure if he was having a bad day, but I felt this was inappropriate (as well as unprofessional) to attack another doctor’s methodology he knew nothing about.
I reminded him that this type of encephalitis is “commonly misunderstood, and I encourage you to research it to maybe have a better understanding. Respectfully, neurology isn’t your specialty and I’ve lived in my body my whole life and we’ve only known each other a few months.”
After this statement, there was a lapse of the character I had previously witnessed in him, when he began sarcastically berating me. “Well, *respectfully*, I happen to know a few things outside of my specialty. My wife is a pediatric neurologist and when your treatment fails—and I give it about three months—come back and see me, because your issue isn’t encephalitis, it is mental illness.” Here, he felt the need to remind me, “I run an entire mental health clinic here and just because you trust another doctor's opinion over mine doesn’t mean it’s right. So I’m sorry you're going to trust a random treatment that doesn’t have one paper out there supporting your doctor's recommendation of treatment” (again, this was incorrect, it does)
He also felt the need to remind me that he was going to pay for the ketamine therapy that he had previously been pushing and I had not yet agreed to.
I pushed back on this reaction because it was out of line, but I asserted myself as calmly as I could. I said “That's not a very nice way to say that,” which he responded to with “I’m sorry you feel that way. If you don’t want to see me anymore because you perceived me stating my opinion as ‘rude’, then go ahead, but we’ve been trying to help you—I’ve been trying to help you—but if you don’t want to listen, that’s fine.”
I replied with “Of course you’re allowed to have your opinions, I was just pointing out that it wasn’t very nice how you stated them.”
He rolled his eyes and told me to “yeah, take care” and left.
I was taken aback by the behavior, and I left the office sobbing for two hours because the interaction upset me so much. Not because I was angry, but because I was hurt.
This was inappropriate and unprofessional, and I unfortunately will not be returning. As I previously stated, I did like him at first, but I feel it is important to caution others patients. It was evident that my disagreement offended him, but if one can not conduct themselves without becoming so easily angered as a medical advisor, perhaps they should seek a different field. I feel that some reflection on this aspect could be beneficial.

Dr. Mukalel and his team are absolutely amazing! Even though they are wonderful at what they do, professional, and truly invested in getting to the root of the problem/ specifying a plan and necessary maintenance for each patient, you somehow forget you are in a medical
Office by how warm and welcoming his staff is. I think by only my second visit, members of his team were already making me feel personally welcome, and they went out of their way to greet me or say hello while walking past. I’m definitely not someone who likes extra attention or anything, but it goes a long way to put you at ease and make you feel like you’re seen and in good hands when the staff doesn’t just zoom right past you with their head down like at most offices. The environment in the procedure center is the same, somehow it is very comforting and every member of the medical team goes above and beyond to make each patient comfortable and well taken care of as their natural standard of care, and it is truly consistent each time I have been there. You will see the same friendly faces and experience kindness and professionalism without pause no matter, the day.
Dr. Mukalel is honest, straight to the point, and prepared to listen and come up with a plan. I believe he truly understands the level of pain his patients may be in and is ready to act and not waste more of your time or energy. Dr. Mukalel is prepared and seems very genuine in his determination to help his patients improve their health and minimize the pain they have likely been dealing with long before arriving at his office for for the first time. I’m so thankful that I was referred to him. He is a fantastic and dedicated doctor. Scheduling is easy and accomdating. His team is the best of the best. And if he doesn’t have an answer or something may be outside of his professional scope, he will be sure to find an answer or refer you to a specialist in the other field without reservation. If you are in pain, suffering, losing hope, or tired of doctors who just don’t hear you or seem to care, Dr. Mukalel and his team will restore your hope and help you feel better. Even if it takes time to get to the root of the issue, he is not a doctor who will just let you walk out of there the same as you came in. He and his team are dedicated to helping each patient leave better than they came in no matter what, and for that I’m forever grateful. You are in good hands here!

I have been dealing with chronic back pain for about 7 years, right arm pain for about 3 years and chronic PTSD since childhood. I have seen many doctors and many specialists who couldn't really find a cause for my pain and therefore, couldn't treat it. Dr. mukalel is the first doctor to go above and beyond and offered me hope. I literally cried in the office.
My right arm is great after about 2 months and my back pain levels have reduced by about 40% and PTSD symptoms have decreased by at least 60%.
I cannot recommend this practice and this doctor enough. Everyone in the office is kind, knowledgeable and relaxed. I have never had to wait for my appointment like I have with other practices.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Mukalel’s for nearly 5 years. He has helped so many parts of my broken body from shredded rotator cuff and tennis elbow to migraines to low back/pelvic pain and neck pain. You can’t tell by looking at me, but I had periods of time when I was unable to walk due to severe pain. I can now walk without a limp, exercise, and do most things other people can do-without prescription pain medication. Thank you, Dr. Mukalel and staff, for helping me feel human again!

Dr. Jessen Mukalel is an excellent doctor. My first visit with him was really great. He Listens to you and is not in a rush. He communicates clearly the treatment he recommends. Continual visits with Dr. Mukalel stay the consistent. He is concerned how you are feeling and helps you become pain free.
My first visit was January 2023, and I am in good hands with healing the pain I had. It has to be a Dr. & Patient relationship, where the patient follows the protocol.
The Staff is awesome! They are friendly, helpful, and they genuinely listen to your needs.
I am very comfortable with the staff and know I am in good hands.
There’s so many positives to making a visit with Dr. Mukalel.
Also, I would like to mention there is a physical therapy facility in the office for convenience, when needed. They are friendly and caring. They work in tandem with Dr. Mukalel to your best interest.
I was prescribed Hydrocodone from another Dr.for over 15 years and no results to healing my back.
With a Dr. Mukalel, This has only been seven months and no more opioids. I only take Acetaminophen if I need it. Huge relief for me.
Do yourself a favor, schedule a visit with Dr. Mukalel.
From a highly satisfied patient.

What an amazing wonderful doctor! It is a great feeling when you know you are being taken care of. Highly recommend! Will not go to another doctor.
Follow up post, Dr Mukalel is now treating my mom, husband, brother in-law, and soon father in-law. He treats all of you not just one symptom /probably at a time. He has set the bar so high for other doctors.
He has a beautiful team that works for him. Both on the inside and out.
Did I mention that he fights for you. Insurance is never on our side he makes sure it does. If you are or not on his network he will work with you.
Their physical therapy team is outstanding! I have been to several others and there is no comparison. They explain how and why you are hurting. Personal care and time they take with you cannot be beat.
Thank You
Doctor Mukalel & Team!

I wanted to express my gratitude for how Dr Meukalel has changed my life dramatically. Sitting has always been a challenge and road trips weren’t something I could do. Recently, I took a 4 hour trip in the car and had little to no pain! This is the first time in 8 years that I was able to do that. I am grateful that he never gave up on getting things right even when I was skeptical due to unsuccessful attempts by others. Additionally, I am getting stronger every day. I now can work out 50 minutes per session compared to 20 minutes before. My energy levels are so much better, even my grandchildren notice how much better I am.
Thank you Dr. Mukalel for all you do for your patients in giving their lives back to them!

Dr. Mukalal is my answer to prayer. He goes above and beyond the call of duty to help you. After 20 years of taking pain medication and numerous surgeries not to mention the mental depression and anxiety of living this way I decided to give Dr. Mukalal a chance to help me. Unlike my other doctor of 20 years he immediately came up with a solution. After many injections, ablations, physical therapy and my final surgery which was fusing with screws my Si joint, 4 weeks later post surgery I’m 80% pain free with no medication and out of my wheelchair. Dr. Mukalal is my knight In shinning armor. I was released from his care today and I’m so thrilled to begin a new life without pain, anxiety and depression. When I say my prayers daily I always thank the good lord for Dr. Mukalal. He has blessed me and my family and I’m so grateful. I highly recommend Dr. Mukalal and I promise you will not be disappointed. His staff and his nurse Kaylyn are always available. They deeply care about you personally and do everything they can do to make your quality of life so much better. I have not felt this great in over 20 years. Thank you Dr. Mukalal for changing my life and helping me live again!
